Step 1 Warming up
1. Greet Ss. Show the picture ‘Welcome to our English class’.
2. Show a cartoon of counting, and make Ss familiar with the numbers.
Step 2 Presentation
1. numbers:
T: What can we learn from the cartoon?
Then read the numbers. Practice to read them better, especially 2, 8 & 9.
2. How old are you? I’m nine.
(1) Presentation.
T: Look, who’s he? How old is Mike? Let’s count the candles on his birthday cake. (Show the pictures of Mike and a birthday cake with 9 candles, ask Ss to count the candles with T.)
(2) Practice: Do a survey in groups: Present a model with one group. Then work in groups.
Check: How many Ss are 9/10 in your group?
(3) Learning tip: Can you ask ladies ‘how old are you’ in the west? No. You can say ‘You look young/nice.’
Step 3 Story time
1. Show a form. T: Who are they?
2. Task 1: Watch the cartoon: How old are they?
Check: A: How old is XX? B: He’s/she’s…(one/two/three…)
3. Toy Museum:
Ask Ss to choose: Where are Mike and Mike’s family? Then teach ‘Toy Museum’ and ‘Welcome to Toy Museum’.
Ss look at the pictures of the toys and say something like: How nice! Teach: How lovely! Compare it with ‘I love you’.
4. Task 2: Read the dialogue and underline the toys.
Check: XX would like a/an…
T: Why do they get different toys at last? Have Ss to pay attention to the age.
5. Task 3: Now you are the shop assistant. Please help boys and girls to buy toys. Work in groups.
6. Task 4: Lets read
read after T -> read in groups -> retell the story
Step 4 Summary and consolidation
1. Give 5 situations and Ss say the appropriate sentences.
2. Read the numbers.
3. Enjoy the song ‘Ten little Indian boys’.
4. Play Magic eyes to count.
5. Review ‘How old are you?’ and the answer.
Homework
